What is PDRN?
PDRN is made by purifying DNA from salmon or trout sperm and breaking it into small fragments. In Italy it has been injected for wound and burn treatment for many years. In Korea it first became known through "salmon DNA" injections at dermatology clinics, and over the last few years it has made its way into serums and ampoules. In a cosmetic, the aim is to help skin look fresher and plumper. Do not expect a serum you apply at home to work like PDRN injected at a clinic; studies on topical products are still few.
How it works
PDRN binds to adenosine A2A receptors on cells. In lab and animal studies this stimulated collagen-producing fibroblasts, reduced inflammation and sped up tissue repair. The DNA fragments can also be reused by cells to build new DNA. Most of this evidence comes from injection and wound-healing studies.

Frequently asked questions
Is PDRN made from salmon?
Yes. Cosmetic PDRN is usually made of DNA fragments purified from salmon or trout sperm, so it is not vegan.
Can I use PDRN and retinol together?
Yes; some products contain both. If you are new to retinol, start slowly to lower the risk of irritation and build up as your skin adjusts.
When will I see results?
Changes in skin usually take at least 4 to 8 weeks of regular use. Results vary from person to person, so we would rather not promise a fixed timeline.
Is it the same as clinic "salmon DNA" treatments?
Same ingredient, different method. At a clinic PDRN is injected into the skin; a serum sits on the surface and far less reaches deeper layers. Do not expect the same effect.
Can I use it during pregnancy?
There is not enough data on topical PDRN in pregnancy. Retinol products are not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Ask your doctor before starting any new product in this period.
