What is Niacinamide?
Niacinamide is the amide form of vitamin B3 and one of the most studied ingredients in skincare. Research at 2 to 5% has shown that it reduces the look of dark spots, balances oil production, strengthens the skin barrier and softens the look of fine lines. Products usually contain between 2% and 10%. More is not always better; 10% and above can cause redness on sensitive skin.
How it works
In cells, niacinamide is converted into the coenzymes NAD+ and NADP+, which take part in energy production and repair. It reduces the transfer of melanin from pigment cells to skin cells, so spots look less visible. It also boosts ceramide production, which strengthens the barrier.

Frequently asked questions
Why is niacinamide so popular?
One ingredient supports several concerns (spots, visible pores, oiliness, the barrier) and most skin tolerates it well.
Can I use it with vitamin C?
Yes. The old advice to keep them apart came from early experiments run at high temperatures. Current evidence says they can be used in the same routine, even in the same product. If your skin gets sensitive, use one in the morning and the other at night.
Is it right for oily skin?
Yes. It helps balance oil and makes pores look less visible. It is often paired with salicylic acid for oily, breakout-prone skin.
Can sensitive skin use it?
Usually, yes. Start with a low strength (2 to 5%) and continue if your skin is happy.
When will I see results?
In studies, changes in spots and tone usually start to show after 4 to 8 weeks of regular use.
